On the other hand, I always find myself deeply introspective about “a better way I could have gotten that part off the assembly...”...
... on the ride to the ER.

They should add:
Side effects: Lots of new tools from Harbor Freight.

Most of the things you do are pretty straightforward and aside from the one bolt that just won’t cooperate, would have been very easy.

Around here the mechanics don’t either, that’s why I work on my own stuff.

Counterpoint: between shop manuals and YouTube, you can find directions to do pretty much anything pretty easily, assuming you’re not working on something really old or completely off the wall. With that said, there are things you just can’t do correctly (or safely) without the right tools . If you’re not going to work on the car enough to justify the expense for the tools, you’re probably better off paying someone to do it for you.

Go to your local salvage yard and find a car similar to yours. Start taking things apart and get a feel for it. Buy a cheap part so the yard gets something out of it. go home and practice on the real thing. Great Success!

Yep - me 100%. Also, now that I have a third car, I don’t worry about this as much, at least with the Miata. It can be down and not bother anybody. My Lexus, I need to be operable, as it’s my car with a carseat for the kiddo.
This is why I’m going to endeavor to perform a coolant flush and replace the expansion tank on my Miata myself, which is something I would’ve normally sought out help or a shop to do.

When your mechanic friend who you asked to help has no clue or says "that's never happened before"

The first time I do something, I generally break something or do something wrong.

Depends if you ever actually use it to install car parts. And if it breaks while doing so. Lots of variables!
